Things Could Be Worse…

The Christmas season was upon us, and all Robert wanted this year was a PS5. If you have anyone who loves gaming in your circle, then you know how hard it was to get your hands on one of these elusive gaming systems before Christmas. However, I was determined. I followed every tip and tweet and underground resource I could find until I got one. Robert immediately affirmed my title as wife of the year, and I was happy as could be.

A few days later I began to worry. He’s going to get this PS5 and be on it all the time. He won’t spend as much time with me. Everything else will come second to it. I’ll have to struggle to get his attention. Other things would go neglected around the house. Sheesh! So much for wife of the year! I called one of my girlfriends and had a vent session. We commiserated until I felt better and hung up.

A little later that day while I was taking stock of my 2020, I thought that for all the bad that happened this year, a lot of good things happened for me personally too. Things could be worse. I felt guilty and had to apply this thought to my PS5 worries too. Things could be worse. I could have never found a PS5 for Robert and he wouldn’t be as happy. I could be sitting up wondering where he is instead of knowing he’s in the next room enjoying a gift I gave him.

Yes, it’s therapeutic to commiserate with a girlfriend for a while about your honey. But, concerning all the things that irritate us from time to time about our hubbies, things could be worse. Here’s a list of common complaints:

·       He works all the time | He could be unemployed laying on your couch all day

·       He doesn’t really open up to me | He could dump all his problems on you and be a basket case

·       He wants sex all the time | He could not desire you at all

·       He doesn’t help around the house | You two could be on the street

·       He complains about how much money I spend | You could be too broke to spend anything extra

While these are all valid complaints, it helps sometimes to take a step back, and be grateful you don’t have it as bad as someone else. I know you’ve heard of women dealing with things you would never! So, as we close out this year, think about how good you have it. Remind him that you’re still happy to be his wife, and you look forward to making the year ahead the best one yet with him. Then, lay a little love down on him!
